[Mary picks the little creature up,] I don't know what kind of animal this is, how this device even works, or where I am. Would someone please explain? I truly need to get home.

Some people train the strongest Pokemon they can and battle Gym Leaders. Some people breed them to get the best Pokemon they can. Some people open businesses with them. There's a lot of different things you can do.

Gym leaders? Do pokèmon like to fight?

They do. At least, most do - you'll find a rare few that don't like it but will do it anyway. But most of them seem to have the natural instincts for battle.

I wonder if Cassius likes them, [She pets the eevee's head and he responds with an excited cry.] It almost seems like blood sport, but if my pokèmon like it, I'll just have to make them strong enough that they don't get hurt!

They like things like that. They get different kinds of attacks, too.

How do you know what kinds of attacks they have if they all have different ones?

You'll see them use it in battle if you can figure it out. Otherwise, you can pull it up on the Pokedex function of the device you're using now.

It's confusing at first, but it's easy enough to get used to.
