[There's a small cry from off screen,] Eevee!

[Mary picks the little creature up,] I don't know what kind of animal this is, how this device even works, or where I am. Would someone please explain? I truly need to get home.

Well, yes, but it didn't look anything like this. It couldn't let you see other people either.

Yeah, they couldn't where I'm from, either! You can type out text messages as well, and there's message boxes for individual people as well as this network. It's really useful once you get used to it.

It sounds very useful. I'm surprised I figured out that this could send a moving image of you to other people, but it seems pretty easy to figure out.

I'm from a city called London. Where are you from?

Hehe, I actually activated that by accident when I first got here. It was a surprise to see people showing up on the little screen!

I was in Munich before I came here, but I was born in a country called Amestris.

Munich, that is in Germany! I've never heard of a country called Amestris though. Where is it?

It's in another world entirely. We call our planet 'Earth' as well, but the two worlds are in a sort of parallel existence between realities. It was...a little bit of an accident that I wound up in Munich at all.

Amazing! So Earth and the world of Amestris are very similar in ways?

Other than their histories being different and alchemy not working on the not-Amestris side of things, yeah. It was kind of weird to get used to.

The science of transmuting a substance into something else. It's very closely linked with chemistry.

That sounds fascinating! I don't understand very much about science, but it is amazing what we are learning from it.
